Library Stacks Rearrangement
For the convenience of library users, the most heavily used books and journals, and journal runs that are not accessible online, have been consolidated in the lower level stacks of the library. Seldom used materials – including journals, oceanographic data reports, government reports, etc. – have been relocated to the second level stacks; many of these volumes are good candidates for future transfer to the library storage facility on the Durham campus.Switch from Dewey Decimal System to the Library of Congress classification system
The Perkins Library system, of which the DUML Library is a branch, is converting its book collections to the Library of Congress classification system. During the past two years most of new books purchased for the DUML Library have been assigned LC call numbers. These books are currently shelved at the end of the bound journals section (just after the journal Veliger) in the lower level stacks. Ultimately all of the Dewey classified books in the DUML Library will be converted to the LC classification system.
